Information Architecture 101
Information Architecture (IA) is a fancy name for how content is organized on a website. Good IA increases findability on a website and helps connect site visitors with the information, product or service they are looking for.
You know a site hasn't taken IA into consideration when you go there and can't find the one thing you're looking for - even when you use their search bar. We've all had this experience and it's frustrating. Research shows that users on the web give a site seven seconds or less before deciding whether or not to move on. That's not a lot of time, and if your content isn't findable within that time frame, you're going to lose them.
How We Can Help
If you're getting complaints from clients, customers or donors that they can't find information they're looking for on your website, it may be time to call in the professionals.
We offer a service called a Content Audit. We go through your entire site and determine if content is misplaced, missing or duplicated. Then we present a plan for how we can reorganize and restructure it so that your site is clear, concise and easy to use.
This doesn't require a site overhaul. We can usually work within the platform of your current site, provided you have editing access. And much like our home's closets and garages, an annual cleaning and reorganization of your site doesn't hurt. Websites, like our homes, tend to get cluttered as we add more and more content throughout the year. Annual content audits and organization recommendations can be scheduled to keep your site clean and usable for your audience.
